While Cards Against Humanity is known for its fun, themed editions, the more serious concepts can often end up being even more entertaining. Cards Against Society is a game originally started by students and professors from the Sociology and Anthropology Department at Middlebury College. In this version, we bring you these cards, plus a few new, well-thought-out ones, made with our card generator, HorribleMaker.
This card game contains a total of 300 cards, specifically 200 white cards and 100 black cards. This deck of cards revolves around the core ideas and contradictions that shape society. There is a discussion about capitalism, inequality, and power structures of identity, race, gender, and many more. What we really love about these cards is how they blend academic theory with relatable everyday realities.
Cards Against Society is still meant to be played by people who are 17 or older, this time, maybe not because of the adult language used, but because of the deep topics.
Gameplay
To play Cards Against Society and all other Cards Against Humanity games, it’s important to follow these steps:
- Find 4 or more people to play with, although we’ve made a guide on how to play with only 2 or 3 players, too.
- Pick one player to be the Card Czar (game judge), who deals everyone 7 cards.
- The Card Czar reads one black card out loud, and everyone responds with one white card they think matches best.
- After all responses are read out loud, the game judge picks their favorite, and that gets one point.
- Another round starts, and someone else becomes the Card Czar.
Winning
When someone wins a round, they get to keep the black card of the round as a point. Whenever you decide to stop playing, whoever has the highest score wins Cards Against Society.
