Let’s face it: Cards Against Humanity doesn’t just make people laugh their hearts out. It also set a new standard for party games, and we love to see it. If you’ve already gone through all the cards and memorized all the combos of this wildly inappropriate yet hilarious card game, maybe it’s time to look for new games.

Luckily, there’s a wide range of games similar to CAH that bring unique features and twists so that you can upgrade your game night!

1. Trial By Trolley

Trial By Trolley

Ages 14+ | 3 to 13 players | 500 cards | Playtime of 15 minutes;

First, unlike Cards Against Humanity, Trial By Trolley is played in two teams, and the idea is to convince the conductor to let your track live. Each team will get 3 innocent cards, guilty cards, and modifier cards, and each round, you should play one of them in order. One player, who shouldn’t be part of a team, is the conductor of the round. After the two teams finish their debate trying to prove why their trolley is better, the conductor finally decides which track should be killed – just like in Cards Against Humanity where the Card Czar picks their favorite response.

2. Ransom Notes

Ransom Notes

Ages 16+ | 3 to 6 players | 250 cards | Playtime of 30 to 60 minutes;

Now, imagine you’re playing Cards Against Humanity, but with magnets and custom responses instead! In Ransom Notes, just like in CAH, one game judge reads the round’s prompt. Then, all other players must place the magnets they were provided with in the boards, trying to create the funniest response. Once everyone’s done, all boards are revealed, and the judge picks their favorite word combination. Obviously, that player gets one point!

3. Joking Hazard

Joking Hazard

Ages 18+ | 3 to 10 players | 360 cards | Playtime of 30 to 90 minutes;

Joking Hazard is a bit dirtier than CAH, reasoning this way the age range; however, they share a very similar gameplay. When playing Joking Hazard, different from CAH, the card combinations contain 3 cards. Either the game judge flips one card and adds one other, or the game judge flips just one, and the other two cards are played by the remaining players. Considering the cards contain illustrations as well, these card combinations will create hilarious comics. And the funniest one, of course, wins the round! You can get the Joking Hazard in PDF, too.

4. Monikers

Monikers

Ages 17+ | 2 to 12+ players | 440 cards | Playtime of 30 to 45 minutes;

If you like the dark humour of CAH, you’ll love Monikers too. The game is more of a word-guessing game, usually played in two teams. A game round consists of 3 phases: say anything, one word only, and charades. Basically, there’s one clue-giver who must get their team to guess the words (which are not innocent, gotta say), either by saying any word like in Taboo, giving one-word clues, or acting the words out. After all three rounds are finished, the player with the most points wins!

5. What Do You Meme?

What Do You Meme

What Do You Meme is the picture version of Cards Against Humanity. The game is played just like CAH: one player is the game judge and draws the starting card, which in this case is a picture. Most of the time, it’s a pretty famous picture on the internet. Then, all other player choose one of their caption cards that they think makes the best combination with the picture, and together make a funny meme. Different from Cards Against Humanity, Snake Oil is appropriate for kids, too, and includes a storytelling element, which can often be very catchy. The idea of the game is that you will choose one of the customers – Zombie, Protester, or Soldier, and create products specifically for them. While combining cards, you’ll create a 2-word product and product pitches, trying to win the customer’s heart, and aiming to be their favorite response, because that’s how you win!

7. Horrible Therapist

Horrible Therapist

Ages 17+ | 3 to 8 players | 370 cards | Playtime of 15 minutes;

In the game, there’s one therapist per round, who must flip over one question card, draw one answer card, and wait for treatment cards from other players. Once everyone submits their best treatment, the therapist picks their favorite: the most absurd one, the darkest, dirtiest, or the funniest. Depends on how the therapist sees treatment and therapy…

Venns With Benefits

Ages 15+ | 3 to 6 players | 320 cards | Playtime of 30 to 90 minutes;

In the latter, firstly, one concept card will be revealed, and then everyone will write their answers on the concept cards. There is no game judge, but once everyone has written their submissions down, you must take turns reading them, and then vote for your favorite (besides your own). Whoever has the most votes wins!

9. Apples to Apples

Apples to Apples

All other players should pick one of their red (things) cards that they think matches the description best. The judge’s top pick wins!

One player reads one Doom card. Everyone else submits one object card and explains how they would use it to escape that situation, in the most creative, funny, or even dirty way. Then, everyone must vote on who they think had the best escape plan, and that player keeps the Doom card of the round as one point.
